This is GISH

This quirky and amazing contest is the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt. GISH is the epitome of charity. Humanitarian led, it is born from the creative mind of Misha Collins, an actor most of the GISH participants know as Castiel from the long running show Supernatural. This year, GISH is collecting funds for No Kid Hungry so that children will have meals during this time of uncertainty with COVID-19.

GISH convenes to “do good” in this sometimes chaotic world. Right now, with the top down negative issues surrounding our country, and on a global scale as well, GISH represents all the positive. I feel there is such a disparity in how our world treats its citizens. The top 2% surely are not all concerned in giving back to those in need. Hence why GISH has decided to step in and assist people with very little. From the $25.01 of each participant’s registration, 15 meals are donated to this year’s charity, No Kid Hungry. Some individuals in the contest this year upgraded their registration which fed even more children. Over 1,000,000 meals were donated to children in need. This is the power of what one organization of feetloaf and plastic bag wedding gown creators (items must be eaten/recycled afterwards) can do. Another item added during the contest is to collect funds for nets for families to help with malaria. We should all fight against unreasonable pain and suffering. The altruism of my fellow GISHERS astounds me. It is evident that people who have lesser means have been more generous.

Every year, for the past decade, GISH has dedicated itself to various charities. There are no ordinary people in GISH, only extraordinary. This contest brings out unique challenges with fun, weird, and creative items. Friendships are a side effect. The state of affairs in our world right now cannot squelch the beauty of kindness between individuals. In GISH, we use many phrases, but one of the infamous ones is “it seemed like a good idea at the time.” Our fun challenges bring us together by testing our sanity at the same time as doing great things in this world.

I will leave you with this: if you have not GISHED, you are undoubtedly missing out on the most fun, strangeness, camaraderie, self-exploration, and “GISH made me do it” ever.
