Press Photos as a store of value

Based on my experience as COO for IMS Vintage Photos. There is a new emerging market that has been slowly building in the background, this new market is the collection and owning of press photos. I have seen some of the Press Photos that have been sold via our online stores go for a considerable amount of money on auctions. A very recent example is the Don McCullin photo that was sold for € 2.500 on our auction on Catawiki last summer. People tend to have a clear appetite for Affordable Photography.

Don MacCullin The Battle of Hue 1968

The above press photo could have been bought for €34 on eBay a few years back. Giving the owner a whopping 700% return on his investment.

let’s look at one more example

Based on these 2 above examples it is clear that Press Photos are growing in value over time if they meet certain quality criteria.

People collect Press Photos for various reasons, some for their artistic value, historic interests, or they just like the image. We at IMS feel extremely proud that we are preserving Press Photos and making them available to the public. So now people can buy and own a collectible piece of history, that might grow in value over time.
