Welcome to the first article in the Medium Publication, “A Plaintiff’s Cry.” Yes, I deliberately misspelled “Plaintive” in a clever manner. I used to be a plaintiff’s lawyer. I resigned from the California Bar with disciplinary charges pending because of a manic episode outside of work hours.

I can no longer practice law, but I am 58 years old, a graduate of Stanford Law School, and it’s fair to say I have been around the block. Friends call me to look things up for them on the Internet. This Publication, A Plaintiff Cry, is nothing more than that — finding someone for you to turn to.

I was out at the mall today and met a young man who mentioned that he had a terrible mold problem in his apartment. Sadly, he has lived there for five years and is “feeling sick.” his landlord was not allowing him to bring in a mold remediation company, and he had no idea what to do except move out.

That last part alarmed me. I lost my father to mesothelioma, a lung cancer caused by inhaling asbestos fibers on the job, and I knew that inhaling mold could not be good. I have heard of “sick building syndrome.”

So, the first thing my new young friend should do is see his family doctor (and get one if he doesn’t have one) and explain that he has been living in a moldy building for five years and feels sick.

Next, immediately search for “personal injury attorney mold tenant” and see if you can find someone. Otherwise, call personal injury attorneys and tell them what you tell your doctor. In Massachusetts and many states, such attorneys work for a “contingency” fee, meaning they only get paid when you recover. This type of case should be able to get this type of lawyer.
