The Whispers of Winter

The one where it all began

Every single time I sit to write, there is a question that pops up in my mind. Why do I write in the first place? Is it for me, or someone else? For a very long time, my answer toggled between either of these, but the real answer was neither.

I write to remember. I write to be remembered. Ironically, sometimes, I write to forget, but not to be forgotten.

This is the first edition of a new series I plan to write in my literature blog, following the idea that behind every poem is an untold story. In this space, I’ll periodically explore the inner meaning contained in my poems. If any poem in the past has puzzled you so much, this is the place to keep a lookout for! Also, as a bonus, I’ll be giving a title to all my poems!

With that being said, my poems can be interpreted in multiple ways and I’ll be presenting the viewpoint from my side as the writer.

So, let’s get started!

This was the very first poem I wrote in 2018 narrating the events of an entire year. The first line refers to my memories, which I treasure and the idea that I will eventually forget about something I held dear. I do however know that, I’ll find them all once I look back at this poem. The year went so fast like how the seasons changed and were as if it could be described in a single line. There have been good times and bad time but nevertheless, it is a tale to tell. The new year makes me realize that I have come to a step closer to the end of my college days. Also, dusk and dawn are generally the time of the day I write my poems.

Multiple references put in here. This poem, in fact, was inspired by some real-life events. It tries to depict how cruel this world is, especially to the good ones. The world is unforgiving to positive changes. Often, the people with the darkest past have the kindest hearts. For, they know that nobody on this planet deserve to be at places they have been at. The devil here symbolizes the seven deadly sins. Pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, and sloth. There is too many of these negative emotions that even the little bit of kindness, care, love, prudence, and humility are met with distrust and doubt. The world is a cold place to live, especially to those with a warm heart.

This poem is kind of a ‘Limerick’, a five-line format with the rhyme scheme a, a, b, b, a. It’s dedicated to a special person. Ironically, that person doesn’t exist in real life but the context is strong enough to be an inspiration to me and those who read my work. Here, I actually introspect something. If the planets were alive, what will the Earth mean to the moon? The answer is left for you to think about.

Trivia behind the title:

‘The Whispers of Winter’ reflect upon the season that was in progress when I was writing these poems. It was in early January 2018. The weather was cold and it was on holiday. These whispers will stay in time to come by.
