How I Lost 50lbs in 6 Months Without Really Trying

Something in my life changed, and it changed the way I eat.

I convinced myself that the reason I got so fat could be blamed primarily on all the english muffins with peanut butter that I ate every day after I had my daughter.

Instead of losing baby weight, I was packing more weight on with peanut butter on carbs and certainly not giving a thought to going to the gym.

Over the years I tried Weight Watchers twice, and each time I followed the plan meticulously, counting my points and weighing my meats and doing all the things that make eating food essentially unenjoyable, and each time I would lose around 30 or 40 pounds…

But then, I would stop following the plan, because the plan just fucking sucks, and I would gain all the weight back AND MORE.

It was a vicious cycle that always left me weighing more than when I started out, so eventually I just gave up dieting.

I guess I’ll always be kind of fat, I thought.

But then I got fatter…and fatter…and fatter.

Every January, I make it one of my New Years Resolutions to lose 50 pounds — which is just a fraction of what I actually need to lose to get to my “goal weight” — and every year I have failed.

Until this year…

This was the winter that I fell in love with someone.

I didn’t get motivated to diet. I didn’t get desperate to lose weight.

I noticed that my appetite and eating habits started to change.

First, I stopped having dessert every night, because I definitely was one of those people who had it engrained in their head that dinner was eventually followed by some kind of dessert.

No more daily ice cream or cookies or whatever other crap we have around the house, and there’s no shortage of it.

Then, I decided to try something I’ve never tried before.

I decided that I would only eat when I was really hungry.
